Seal Your Juvenile Criminal Record

In Washington, your juvenile criminal history doesn't go away when you turn 18. You have to ask the court to seal your record. Sealing your record allows you to legally check the "No" box when asked on an application whether you have a criminal record.

If your juvenile criminal record is from King or Snohomish County, please click here for information about our Juvenile Record Sealing Clinic.

If your juvenile criminal record is from another Washington county, please click here to access a web form that will help you fill out the paperwork needed to seal your records. NOTE: After you fill out the paperwork, you will need to contact the juvenile court in the county where your record is located to find out the process for filing the paperwork and completing your case.

Juvenile Record Sealing Clinic

SYLAW currently collaborates with pro bono attorneys and volunteers from the University of Washington School of Law and Seattle University School of Law to provide free assistance to individuals trying to seal their juvenile records in King and Snohomish County.  The clinic is held once a month from October to May. There's no need to make an appointment and no need to bring anything with you!

Am I Eligible to Have My Records Sealed?

You meet the requirements to have youth records sealed if you can answer "Yes" to the following questions:

~Has it been at least 2 years since you were last released from confinement for a juvenile misdemeanor or class C felony?

~Has it been at least 2 years since you last completed a diversion?

~Has it been at least 5 years since you were last released from confinement for a class B felony?

~Have you remained crime-free since your last conviction?

~Have you paid all your court-ordered fines or fees?

If you have any questions about whether you meet these requirements, the volunteers at the Record Sealing Clinic can help you figure it out.
